Witness Flag Football History in the Land of a Thousand Lakes: Finland Gears Up for 2024 World Championship

This August, Lahti, Finland, will be the epicentre of an exciting sporting event – the 2024 IFAF Flag Football World Championship. This prestigious tournament, hosted by the American Football Association of Finland (SAJL), promises to be the biggest and most spectacular edition yet. This year, the games will be taking place starting the 27th of August and the finals will take place on the 30th of August. Hotel reservations are booked from the 26th of August until the 1st of September. Matches will take place at Pajulahti and have free entry, while the finals will be played at Lahti Stadium which do require tickets to be purchased.

How do I get to the stadium?

Simple! Included in your hotel booking are transfers from your accommodation in Lahti to Pajulahti, so no need to worry about arranging your own transportation to the venue. For groups, airport transfers are available upon request. The final games will be played in Lahti, and the stadium is only 1,5km from the hotels.

How do I get to Lahti?

From Helsinki-Vantaa airport, there are three main ways to get to Lahti: 

  • Train: The fastest and most convenient way to get from Helsinki Vantaa Airport to Lahti is by train. There are regular trains from the airport train station to Lahti, with a journey time of around 1 hour and 15 minutes. You will need to transfer at Tikkurila station. You can buy tickets from the HSL (Helsinki Region Transport) vending machines (blue machines) for travel within the Helsinki region, or the VR (Finnish Railways) vending machines (green machines) for travel to Lahti.
  • Bus: OnniBus operates a direct bus service from Helsinki Vantaa Airport to Lahti city centre, with a journey time of around 1 hour and 5 minutes. Buses depart a few times a day. There is also the option of taking a bus to Tikkurila train station and connecting there with a direct train to Lahti.
  • Taxi: Taxis are readily available at Helsinki Vantaa Airport and can take you directly to Lahti. The journey time will depend on traffic conditions, but it is typically around 1 hour. Taxis are the most expensive option, but they can be a good choice if you have a lot of luggage or if you are travelling with a group of people.
